Mystery of MH370 : M'sian Govt Dealing Issue In Responsible Way - South Korea

KUALA LUMPUR: South Korea’s Ambassador to Malaysia Cho Byungjae has dispelled international media reports criticising Malaysia’s handling of the missing Malaysia Airlines (MAS) MH370, saying the Malaysian Government was dealing with the disappearance of the jetliner in a very responsible way.

He said it was not an easy task to coordinate, support and lead the search and rescue (SAR) mission which involved 26 countries.

Speaking to Bernama at the embassy here today, Cho described the ongoing SAR mission as a tremendous task, and that Malaysia was leading the international efforts in a successful way.

“Geographically, the search stretches over huge territories and oceans in at least a dozen countries.

Even in Malaysia, there are assets and personnel from more than 20 countries,” he said, pointing to the massive multinational SAR operations.

Cho said as far as the South Korean SAR team was concerned, it enjoyed successful communication with the Malaysian authorities.

He also said the South Korean assets were expected to head to the Indian Ocean today, joining in the search at the Southern corridor after they went out to areas near the Andaman Island yesterday.

The ambassador also said that since the disappearance of Flight MH370, the news had drawn a lot of attention worldwide and was being widely published in South Korean newspapers although no South Korean national was onboard.

“I want to stress that South Korea is together with Malaysia. We support them and we believe the Malaysian Government is working in a very responsible way.

“For the international community, I want to emphasise that we need to continue supporting and cooperating with the Malaysian Government in this time of crisis,” he added.

The Beijing-bound MH370, carrying 227 passengers and 12 crew members, disappeared about an hour after departing the KL International Airport at 12.41am on March 8. It was scheduled to land in Beijing at 6.30am the same day.     -- BERNAMA
